Turncoat began with a bold move from its founder, Terry Langton. Originally a brewer, Terry “turned coat” on beer to follow his passion for gin — giving the brand both its name and its rebellious spirit. His vision created one of Liverpool’s first true craft gin distilleries, built on independence, experimentation, and a refusal to follow the ordinary path.

In 2023, Edward Ridding took over the business, carrying Terry’s vision forward with creativity and determination. Under his guidance, Turncoat evolved its range and strengthened its reputation, keeping alive the pioneering energy that first defined the brand.

In 2025, Liverpool Distillery Ltd acquired Turncoat and began modernising the brand for a new era. With investment in design, innovation, and production, Turncoat today stands as both a tribute to its fearless origins and a marker of where Liverpool craft distilling is heading.

Every product we make reflects this journey: from the original Cascade Gin — with its brewer’s twist of beer hops — to bold new creations developed in our R&D Room. Each bottle is distilled in small batches, balancing traditional methods with contemporary ideas, and always true to the spirit of rebellion.
